Each Zulu & Zephyr garment is crafted with sustainability and durability in mind. Here we share tips on how to make your pieces last as long as they were designed to.

CARING FOR YOUR COTTON

Wash

Cotton can be machine or hand-washed. Wash at 30° to prevent garments from shrinking. Place delicate items in a mesh bag to help prevent snagging or twisting during machine cycles. Hang cotton pieces to air dry from bottom to top.

Store

Hang your cotton pieces in a dry cool place on velvet clothing hangers. This keeps garments un-creased and in shape, whilst soft velvet hangers prevents pulls.

Care

Despite its durability, cotton clothing can be prone to rips and tears if not cared for. Be mindful of jewellery and bags snagging or creating friction on the cotton garment. If you're comfortable with sewing, repairing rips is a fairly simple task using a needle and cotton thread. You can also take more complex repair work to a seamstress.

CARING FOR YOUR DENIM

Rest / Air

Between wears, simply air denim in the shade. Spot clean with warm water, gentle detergent and a clean cloth. On occasion, use a natural deodorizer spray between washes.

Occasionally wash

Wash once per every 10 wears on a gentle cycle at 30°C or lower. Washing in cool water protects against fading, shrinking and maintains the rich denim colour. Cold water also saves energy, making it better for your denim and the environment. Line dry where possible, dryers cause denim to shrink, lose shape and shortens the overall lifespan of fabric.

Store

Fold denim down in a dry cool place. Hanging denim for long periods of time can cause the waistband to loose shape. Always fix buttons and zip fly, this ensures your favourite denim keeps its shape.

Care

Make a conscious effort to spot clean stains immediately, as the recycled denim fibres naturally soak and dry quickly. Instant spot cleaning can reduce the severity of stains.

CARING FOR YOUR LINEN

Rest / Air

Like many fabrics, linen garments need minimal washing. Simply air in filtered sunlight or hang in the bathroom while taking a hot shower, using the steam to remove odour or dust.

Occasionally wash

On the occasional machine wash, ensure garment is on low spin at 30°C. High temperatures can weaken the fibres and affect dyes. When hand washing, rinse with lukewarm water. Hang linen pieces to air dry. Tumble drying can shrink or damage the fibres.

Store

Hang your linen on velvet clothing hangers. This keeps linen un-creased and in shape. Soft velvet hangers avoids pulls on linen garments.

Care

Make a conscious effort to spot clean stains immediately. The linen fibres naturally soak and dry quickly. Spot cleaning can reduce the severity of stains. Stay clear of bleach or harsh chemicals on linen, this can affect the dye and damage the fabric. Spot dab with warm water and gentle eco detergents.

A lightweight, breathable and textured fabrication, Linen softens with each wear. It will last a lifetime if you take the time to care for it.

CARING FOR YOUR SWIM

Wear

All Zulu & Zephyr swim styles are designed to be worn in salty oceans and fresh water. To ensure the lifespan of your swim is forever, limit to wearing in chlorinated pools, spa's or saunas. Contact with textured surfaces such as pebbled pools or rocks can snag the fabric and cause pilling. All One Pieces double as a bodysuit or undergarment. Be mindful of garments worn over swim such as, denim or embellished apparel as this may cause pilling, pulls or create friction.

Wash

Hand wash in cold water after every swim. On occasion, use gentle non-fragrant detergent, hand soaping the garment. Rinse thoroughly to ensure detergent is removed and this may cause fading.

Dry

Ideally, lay flat inside out in shade. If hanging, wring water out in sink, water heavy swim can cause the suit to lose shape.

Do not air dry in direct sunlight, this will cause the colour to fade. Do not tumble dry.

Store

Ensure your swim is completely air dry and free from salt or chlorine before storing. If not correctly cleaned prior to storage, mould or fold lines may appear. Fold into draws, do not hang. Store in a dry cool place.

CARING FOR YOUR WOOL

Rest / Air

The natural fibres have a protective coating, making it resistant to dirt, dust and odour. Simply air your woollens in filtered sun. Allow 24 hours before wearing again, this allows the wool to regulate and regenerate.

Occasionally wash

When washing on a delicate or wool cycle, use a specialist wool detergent at 30°C with a low spin setting. Dry woollens on a flat surface, placing a towel underneath to absorb any drips. Hanging wool up to dry will stretch pieces out of shape.

Store
Fold and store woollens in drawers. The weight of the wool will pull the piece out of shape if hung.

Care
Reduce pilling by limiting friction. Pilling is easily removed by hand picking, pilling comb, fabric shaver, or trimming scissors. Pilling is not a sign of poor quality, wool is a natural fibre.
