Tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind these two featured prints from our latest collection, Pacific.
We started creating these graphic style prints a few years ago and they were received really well. We are drawn to the clean lines, simple colours and the nostalgic feel of shapes inspired by nature. The FLORA print is a great example of this, a two tone print with a coral inspired motif. It’s a nod to artist Henri Matisse’s iconic later works using paper cut outs. We wanted to include a floral in the collection, but without it being too busy or obvious. The PAPER FLOWER was drawn to be a timeless floral. We had it printed at a large scale on styles that are gathered, so that the floral almost loses its definition and you’re left with a mix of the colours.
Can you shed some light on the process from paper to production?
When inspiration strikes we usually put pen or brush to paper, creating shapes and lines, experimenting with colours and creating motifs. These will then be scanned into the computer where we’ll manipulate the shapes, distorting them and creating repeats. We’ll drop the prints into our CADS to see a mock up of the print in a garment, the fun part! From there we will send the files off to our factories who will print us a swatch on our chosen fabric. After we approve the swatches, our styles will be made up in the printed fabric.
What’s your favourite piece from the Pacific collection?
Personally I’m drawn to more minimal and tonal looks, so this collection really speaks to me and it’s hard to pick just one! I’m wearing my Brown Ribbed One Piece with the Cotton Crochet Skirt, and the Forest Towelling Stripe One Piece with my Flora Sarong. We intended for this entire collection to be easily mixed and matched, so there are a multitude of ways to create the perfect summer capsule wardrobes!
